Holstein Kiel is starting the renovation of the Holstein Stadium with the north stand. On Tuesday, June 2, the first seats were removed. The second-division football club wants to complete the new main stand by 2028. Screwdriver, two screws out - and the seat is already loosening. Kiel's mayor Samet Yilmaz and State Chancellery chief Dirk Schrödter have symbolically dismantled the first seats on the north stand. Yilmaz speaks of a historic moment. The remaining seats on the north stand will be removed in the next few days. Then the standing areas will follow. By the start of August, the north stand will be gone. The spectators will then look at the construction site. Those who previously had a season ticket on the north stand will receive an email with an alternative seat offer in mid-June. The new main stand is expected to be completed by March 2028. It will be the heart of the new stadium. The technology, VIP seats, media workstations, and team cabins will be located there. After that, three more construction phases are planned. By September 2030, the new Holstein Stadium is expected to be completely finished and will then offer space for around 22,000 fans. By expanding two corners, the capacity can be increased to up to 25,000 if needed. The largest part of the planned costs of up to 75 million euros will be shared by the city, the state, and a private investor. The club will be the long-term main tenant and will refinance the construction of the stadium.
