Holstein Kiel is saying goodbye to defender Marco Komenda after six years together. The 29-year-old is moving to Polish second division club Arka Gdynia. Sports director Olaf Rebbe explains: „When Marco came to us with the request to transfer, it was self-evident for us to grant it to him, because he has always given everything for our club in the past years“. Komenda played 104 competitive games for the club from the Förde. He experienced the club's promotion in 2024 and relegation a year later. The professional, born in Darmstadt, was trained in the youth of SV Darmstadt 98. In 2020, he joined Holstein Kiel after stints with Sportfreunde Siegen, the second team of Borussia Mönchengladbach, and SV Meppen. Komenda will leave Holstein Kiel after six years. His new club, Arka Gdynia, plays in the Polish second league. The transfer is a loss for Holstein Kiel, but also an opportunity for Komenda to continue his career. Olaf Rebbe emphasizes that the club has always supported Komenda and is now granting him the wish to leave the club. The fans of Holstein Kiel will miss Komenda, but also support his new challenge. The club from the Förde will now focus on the upcoming games and try to finish the season successfully.
